Step Into Better Health This May

May is a month all about health, wellbeing, and taking positive steps—both physically and mentally. At Wincanton Chiropractic Clinic, we’re encouraging everyone to move more, look after themselves, and remember that support is always available when you need it

National Walking Month – Every Step Counts

May is National Walking Month, making it the perfect time to lace up your shoes, get outside, and give your body the movement it’s been craving.

Walking is one of the simplest and most effective ways to support your overall health—and it’s especially beneficial for your spine, joints, posture, and mental wellbeing.

Why Walking Matters

Regular walking can help to:

  • Improve posture and spinal alignment
  • Keep joints mobile and muscles active
  • Boost circulation and reduce stiffness
  • Support mental wellbeing and reduce stress
  • Increase energy and improve sleep

Whether it’s a countryside stroll, a brisk walk through town, or simply getting more steps into your day, every bit of movement counts.

Posture Tips While Walking

Walking is natural—but many of us still fall into habits that can lead to discomfort. Here are a few simple tips to help you walk well:

Stand Tall

Keep your head up, shoulders relaxed, and avoid hunching forward. Imagine a string gently lifting you from the top of your head.

Look Ahead, Not Down

Constantly looking at your phone or feet can place unnecessary strain on your neck and upper back.

Swing Your Arms Naturally

This helps with balance and keeps your movement fluid and relaxed.

Wear Supportive Footwear

Good shoes can make a huge difference in how your body absorbs impact and supports your joints.

Start Small and Build Up

If you’re returning to movement after a break, begin with shorter walks and gradually increase your distance.

Skin Cancer Awareness Month – Protect Your Skin

May is also Skin Cancer Awareness Month, an important reminder to protect your skin whenever you’re outdoors.

Even on cloudy days, UV rays can still damage the skin, so applying suncream daily is one of the simplest ways to protect yourself and your health.

This is especially important for those who work outdoors, including tradespeople, gardeners, farmers, delivery drivers, and anyone spending long hours in the sun.

Sun Safety Tips

  • Wear SPF 30+ suncream daily
  • Reapply regularly, especially when sweating or working outside
  • Wear hats and protective clothing where possible
  • Stay hydrated
  • Take breaks in shaded areas when you can

Looking after your skin now can make a huge difference in the future.

Mental Health Awareness Week – 11th–17th May

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, and we want you to know:

It’s okay to be struggling.
