Why can holidays sometimes cause bad backs?
Travelling often sets off episodes of back pain for a variety of reasons. Sitting in uncomfortable chairs for long periods of time without sufficient lumbar support. Whether in the car, train, bus, or aeroplane, none of the seats are ideal. Sleeping on a different mattress can also bring on muscular issues for back pain sufferers. In addition, lifting and carrying luggage is a different movement and strain on the body.
The good news is there are things that you can do to lesson the chances or severity of back pain:
- If you’re on the road with someone else, take turns driving and pull over at rest stops for a quick stretch. On a plane, train, or bus, get up every 20-30 minutes and stand or stroll if you can. Let the driver or flight attendant know you’re dealing with pain and will need to stand up regularly.
